Ever since I met Chef Paul Kahan at the BlogHer convention last summer, I've been meaning to check out Avec, which he personally recommended to me to try next. His other restaurants include Blackbird, Publican, Big Star, Violet Hour, and his newest addition Nico Osteria, an Italian Seafood Restaurant in the Gold Coast. Last year, Kahan was named as Outstanding Chef by the James Beard Foundation, which is basically the Oscars for chefs. This May, he will be inducted into the James Beard Foundation's Who's Who in Food & Beverage in America. It is so exciting that Chicago is home to one of the most influential chefs in the world!
Yesterday for brunch, I ordered the breakfast paella, with chicken confit, snail boudin, eggs and tangerine aioli. It was definitely hearty with the generous portions of meat; it lasted for two more meals. My buddy Flo ordered the wood oven baked french toast, which tasted more like quiche or egg souffle casserole, rather than bread.
Tomorrow, the 2014 James Beard nominees will be named at Kahan's Publican.
